This therapy involves placing hot stones, at an average temperature of 50ºC, on strategic points of the body, such as the chakras (magnetic centers that, according to Hinduism, capture, store, and distribute energy. They are believed to be related to organs and glands) and specific points on the spine. The power of the stones on the sensory receptors creates a deep connection between body and mind, acting on and influencing the overall health of the organism.
After each stone is used by the therapist, they are reheated in water. The stones come in different shapes and sizes. The smoother ones are used for body massage and, despite being quite warm, are tolerable for both the person giving and receiving the massage. The friction created on the body with the stone improves cell regeneration.
In a calm environment, with low lighting and soothing music, relaxation is all you can expect from this technique.
