Dr. Hélder Pereira, Director of the International Center for Sports Traumatology at the Taipas Termal Health Clinic, received an ISAKOS Research Support Award in ankle surgery, aimed at finding new solutions for repairing ligament injuries of the ankle.

The scientific work took place at the University of Denver between Kenneth Hunt (USA), Hélder Pereira (Portugal) and Pieter D'Hooghe (Belgium/Qatar), in the United States of America, and also involved collaboration between the University of Minho, Póvoa de Varzim Vila do Conde Hospital Center, Taipas Termal Sports Traumatology Center and the University of Denver in the United States and the FIFA Medical Center of Excellence – Aspetar.

Hélder Pereira published in the journal "Arthroscopy" an innovative technique that allows for faster and more effective rehabilitation of ankle ligament ruptures, the most frequent injury in sports.
