💧 Taking care of your health using thermalism is now more accessible. The new state co-payment scheme for thermal treatments prescribed by the National Health Service (SNS) came into effect today, October 1, 2025.

If you are looking to improve your well-being through natural methods, this is a unique opportunity.

What has changed in the reimbursement system?

The pilot project initiated in 2021 has given way to a stable and comprehensive system. Here are the main changes:

  • 🟢 Co-payment of 35% of the cost of thermal treatments prescribed by the SUS (Brazilian Public Health System);

  • 🟢 Limit of R$110 per year per user

  • 🟢 Prescriptions from family doctors are now valid for 12 months (previously only 30 days);

  • 🟢 Each treatment should last between 12 and 21 consecutive days ;

  • 🟢 The maximum annual reimbursement budget is 2 million euros .

Who can benefit?

All users of the National Health Service can access it, provided they have a medical prescription issued by their family doctor .

This prescription is then validated and transformed into a treatment plan by the hydrologist physician at the chosen thermal spa.

What diseases are covered?

The reimbursement scheme covers several conditions, including:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Asthma and rhinitis

  • Psoriasis and urticaria

  • Diabetes and obesity

  • Venous insufficiency

  • Anemia

  • Neurological and psychiatric diseases

What treatments are included?

Subsidized treatments encompass the set of procedures and techniques defined by the hydrologist physician, such as:

  • Hydropinia (ingestion of natural mineral water)

  • Immersion and bathing techniques

  • Steam techniques

  • Special techniques , such as breathing techniques

  • Complementary support techniques

Why does the SNS support thermalism?

Thermalism has been increasingly recognized as a complementary health practice, with proven benefits:

  • It contributes to the prevention and control of chronic diseases ;

  • It helps reduce the consumption of medications and additional tests;

  • It improves quality of life and reduces absenteeism at work;
